Prayer For Rest — Find Gods rest when you are weary and exhausted

As nurses, we often find ourselves pouring out our energy and compassion day after day, sometimes feeling as though we’re running on empty. Long shifts, overwhelming responsibilities, and the emotional toll of caring for others can leave us weary. It’s in these moments that we must remind ourselves of the promise of rest that God offers us.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us with open arms:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28, NIV

This is a beautiful reminder that amidst our hectic schedules and the demands of our profession, we have a place to turn for renewal. Jesus doesn’t just see our exhaustion; He understands it. Whether it’s a long night shift or a particularly tough day filled with emotional challenges, He gently calls us to lay our burdens at His feet and find solace in His presence.

As nurses, we are often the caregivers, the ones who support and uplift those around us. But who takes care of us when we are exhausted? It’s easy to overlook our own needs in the rush to care for others. However, God encourages us to prioritize our well-being so that we can serve from a place of strength and love. When we take time to rest—whether through prayer, meditation, or simply quiet moments of reflection—we recharge not just our bodies, but our spirits.

In Isaiah 40:31, we find another promise of renewal:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31, NIV

As you navigate your busy day, remember that it’s okay to pause and seek God’s presence. Let His peace wash over you, rejuvenating your spirit for the tasks ahead. Let His strength become your strength.

**Reflection Question:** How can you incorporate moments of rest and renewal into your daily routine as a nurse?

**Prayer:** Lord, thank You for the promise of rest and renewal. Help me to find moments of peace amidst the chaos, so I can serve others with a joyful heart. Amen.
