Deuteronomy 31:6: Daily Devotional for Strength & Courage

By DailyVerseGrace · May 28, 2026 · 4 min read

The sun had barely risen, but the small diner was already buzzing. The smell of fresh coffee mingled with the sweet aroma of cinnamon rolls. You can hear the soft clinking of silverware against plates, mixed with the hum of early conversations. In a corner booth, a woman named Lisa sat with her head buried in her hands, her fingers tangled in her hair. The world around her thrived, but inside her, doubt and fear battled fiercely.

Look, we’ve all experienced that moment—when life feels like an unrelenting storm, and you’re just trying to keep your head above water. For Lisa, it was her job, her family, and the heavy weight of an uncertain future that pushed her to the brink. Each day felt like a marathon, and the finish line seemed to drift further away.

In moments like these, there’s a verse that keeps coming back to me…

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

Lisa’s Story

When Lisa heard that verse during a Sunday service, it struck a chord deep within her. “Be strong and courageous?” she thought, feeling anything but brave. She had just been passed over for a promotion at work, and her self-esteem was in shambles. Her boss, a tough-as-nails woman named Patricia, seemed to have it out for her.

After the service, Lisa sat in her favorite coffee spot with her friend Becky. “I don’t know if I can handle this anymore. I feel so small. Why can’t I just have the courage to stand up for myself?”

Becky leaned in, “You’ve got to remember that you’re not alone. God is right there with you. Trust that He’s got your back.”

But trust felt hard when everything around Lisa seemed to scream, “You’re not enough.”

The Turning Point

One evening, Lisa found herself pacing her living room, wrestling with her thoughts. The weight of expectations, deadlines, and family obligations felt crushing. Just as she was about to collapse into despair, she noticed a note stuck to the fridge. It was from her daughter, a simple drawing with the words: “You are my hero.”

Something inside her stirred. In that moment, Lisa let go of trying to be perfect. She prayed, feeling the peace of God wash over her as she finally allowed herself to be vulnerable. “Lord, I need strength. I need courage. Help me to face tomorrow, even if I feel afraid.”

In the days that followed, she began to embrace small acts of courage—the little things that seemed trivial before. She spoke up in meetings, challenged Patricia’s unfair expectations, and started a weekly family night. By leaning on her faith, she began to see herself through God’s eyes—not as weak, but as strong and capable.

What This Looks Like in Your Life

You might be staring down your own set of challenges. Perhaps it’s a job you dread or a family situation that leaves you feeling powerless. Here are three practical ways to integrate strength and courage into your daily life:

1. **Speak Truth to Yourself**: When self-doubt creeps in, combat it with scripture. Write down verses that speak to your situation and repeat them daily. Let that truth sink deep.

2. **Take Small Steps**: Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, it’s a quiet decision to face a difficult conversation or change a habit. Identify one small act you can take this week.

3. **Lean on Community**: Don’t walk this journey alone. Share your struggles with a friend or mentor who can encourage you and remind you of the strength you possess.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being with us in our moments of fear and uncertainty. Help us to find strength and courage in You, knowing that we are never alone. May we lean on Your promises and step boldly into the challenges before us. Amen.
